Research suggests roughly one-third of all food is lost or wasted. Despite the global movement trying to reduce meat consumption, it will take approximately 30 more years to reach a sustainable society. Even then, it will not be a 100% meat-free future. What is our responsibility as omnivore animals?

R.I.B. is a research project based in Eindhoven, Netherlands. At butchers and steak restaurants, the meat is the only meaningful part to customers, while the ribs are thrown away disrespectfully and forgotten How can we reduce the aggressive usage of food resources? How can we better appreciate animals used for food How can we make the bones meaningful in order to add value?

In collaboration with butchers and restaurants in the Eindhoven area, wasted bones are collected for this research and experiment. The collected bones will be recycled to new biomaterials such as bone glue, bone plastic, ceramic glaze, and plant fertilizer. These are all double-sustainable, non-toxic, and eco-friendly products. It affects the way people experience food and changes the way they dispose of food waste.
